Rite of Summer’s Don Byron New Gospel Quintet in ‘Are You Hip To This?’

The Rite of Summer Music Festival on Governor’s Island has been going on since 2011, bringing a wide variety of musical acts to summer audiences. On Saturday, July 11, I had the privilege of attending a performance by Don Byron and his New Gospel Quintet and speaking to him after the show.

This festival really is the way to go if you’re looking for quality music and a venue that will allow you to just sit back and enjoy the performers while soaking up some extra vitamin D.
